Specialization International Production

February 2023 I started a new journey, called International Production. Before I moved to Ho Chi Minh for 4 months, I followed the WRAP junior auditor course, which I proudly passed.

For this specialization I traveled to Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam to gain working experience in an international fashion production company. The company where I follow this traineeship is called NBC Nhabe Garment Corporation. In the company I fulfill the role as a designer. Right now I am working on a ready made garment collection from leftover fabrics and trimmings in the company’s warehouse. Besides designing a collection for NBC, I write an advice report for them about the leftover problem and how they can attract new brand/customers with ready made garments. I am grateful for this opportunity and I enjoy working here every day.

In these 16 weeks that I have lived in Vietnam, I also developed myself on personal goals for example; improving my English, stepping out of my comfort zone and building a network in Asia.

Year 2: Fashion business & strategy

This semester was all about fashion and strategy. As I have learned in Semester
3, doing business in this industry takes more than capital, charisma, and good looks. Just offering an alternative to your competitor is not enough to stay ahead. The real trick lies in a solid strategy that results in a sustainable business model. In this semester I learned how to prepare strategic advice for a fashion company in order to realize this goal. In this semester, I played the role of a consultant with the task of writing a strategic advice report for a fashion company. My goal was to ensure that, in the long run, the company stays ahead of the competition.

The semester consists of three phases:
- Situation Analysis
- Strategic Position
- Financial Plan

Year 2: Fashion and the circular economy

Within this semester, I focused on how the fashion industry can be organized differently by not only looking at generating turnover (which, after all, is necessary to remain healthy as a company) but also how a company can contribute to a healthy world for everyone. The topics that are discussed within this semester are sustainability, meaning and circularity. Sustainability and meaningfulness can be translated as responsibility. Acting responsibly with an eye and a heart for the social aspects of people, the planet and prosperity. The content of the semester is based on three pillars: collection, material, and production. The analyses of the first two topics lead to the final recommendation.

- Collection analysis: How does the collection reflect the company's vision, mission, and core
values?
- Sourcing plan: How do the material choices and the various product development methods
reflect the company's vision?
- Production plan: Plan of action at the operational level for a healthy collection

With Browzwear, I learned that I can assist apparel companies who are moving to true-to-life digital samples that remove productivity barriers, speed up time to market, and enhance sustainability.

Year 1: The Labs

In this 17-week-module I was challenged to work with skills from various dimensions within the context of fashion. I attended a variety of LABS for 12 weeks, in an opportunity to discover which skill(s) I can use to shape my talent. In addition, these LABS also offered me a chance to develop an attitude to enhance and enrich my creativity. The LABS I attended were: Word, Construction, Business, Graphics, Materials, Production, Form, Forecasting and Image.

Personal projects & jobs

In addition to my school assignments, I design invitations, business cards, menus, and other products in my spare time. I also try to invest as much time as possible on technical drawings, which I absolutely enjoy making them.
